Gonzalo Montiel: Nottingham Forest sign World Cup-winning defender on loan

Nottingham Forest have signed defender Gonzalo Montiel on a season-long loan from Sevilla with an option to buy.
The 26-year-old World Cup winner scored the decisive penalty kick as Argentina beat France in last year’s final.

Hide AdHe also scored the winning penalty as Sevilla claimed the 2022 UEFA Europa League title.
“I’ve been watching the Premier League since I was child, I used to watch every game,” Montiel told the club’s website. “As a player you want to play in the best league, and the Premier League is just that.”
The Argentine international is the latest signing on Trentside, following the arrivals of defender Ola Aina, forward Anthony Elanga and goalkeeper Matt Turner.
The full-back rose through the youth ranks at River Plate and made his first-team debut in April 2016.

Hide AdHe went on to make 140 appearances for the Buenos Aires club and won five major trophies with his boyhood club, including the 2018 Copa Libertadores.
Montiel, who has been capped 23 times by Argentina and most recently played in the Super Cup final vs Manchester City, will wear the number 29 shirt at the City Ground.
Nottingham Forest continue their Premier League campaign away at Manchester United on Saturday.
