A pensioner has been arrested after reports of two separate sexual assaults on a cycle track in Nottinghamshire.

The victims were both walking along the path between Newark and Middlebeck, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The first assault happened at around 2pm on Saturday, August 19 and the second at around 3.50pm on Monday, August 21.

A 72-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault by touching and has been released on bail.

Nottinghamshire Police said it believes the two incidents are linked and involve the same suspect.

It said officers will carry out visible patrols of the area to provide reassurance to the community and to ensure the suspect is complying with his bail conditions.

PC Marcus Bloomfield said: “Both of these incidents would’ve been very distressing for the victims, who were understandably shaken up by what happened.”
