If anyone is going to know where's hot in Nottingham - it's our superstar Vicky McClure

It’s no secret that Vicky McClure is Nottingham through and through.

The actor, best-known for her appearances in This Is England and Line of Duty, was born in Wollaton on May 8, 1983.

As a teenager she attended Fernwood School and returned there in 2017 to hand out GCSE certificates.

In 2015 she received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Arts from Nottingham Trent University in recognition of her contribution to acting and charitable support of the city

Seven years later, in 2022, McClure was awarded another honorary degree - this time being made a Doctor of Letters by the University of Nottingham

Despite her fame over the past two decades, Vicky has stayed true to her roots and speaks with a broad East Midlands accent.

Given her love for the city, it’s unsurprising that Vicky has a few special spots that she likes to visit in her free time.

In an interview with VisitNottinghamshire, Vicky identified four of her favourite places in Nottingham

She said: “Being from Wollaton, Wollaton Park is one of my favourite places. It's absolutely beautiful there & if it’s sunny or snowy you’re guaranteed a fun day.

"The Hall is a beautiful Elizabethan Mansion with lots to see inside & there's always loads of exciting events throughout the year!

“Dino's Cafe & Wine Bar - I really like it here, the food is really tasty and it has a really cosy feel to it."

She continued: “I often go there with my mum after a long day's shopping in town, glass of wine, sometimes live music, perfect combination.

Paul Smith - Being a local designer is a bonus but I love their clothes & products. The shop itself has such a nice vibe to it, with different rooms to wander around. The original shop is just around the corner too.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem - The oldest Inn in England! Situated within the caves of Nottingham Castle, it’s already a very impressive place to grab a pint! A very friendly place to eat & drink with friends, lots to look at & even a very old-fashioned game, swinging the loop on the horn... I don't know the history behind it but hours of fun!”

Last December, Vicky was appointed an MBE for her services to drama and charity.

In 2018, she joined forces with the University of Nottingham for the documentary Our Dementia Choir.

The series saw McClure take on a personal journey where she sets out to discover the true extent of music’s power in combating dementia.
