In a social media post, the star said: “Today whilst my nephew played a King in his nativity, I met the King. This is for all those facing dementia. This is for all the working-class budding actors.”

Besides her acting work, McClure has taken a keen interest in charity work over recent years.

In 2018 she founded the charity Our Dementia Choir as part of a documentary for the BBC, which brings us on to her links to Nottingham.

But Fernwood School isn’t McClure’s only link to educational institutions in Nottingham.

In 2015 she received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Arts from Nottingham Trent University in recognition of her contribution to acting and charitable support of the city.

Seven years later, in 2022, McClure was awarded another honorary degree - this time being made a Doctor of Letters by the University of Nottingham.

In 2018, she joined forces with the University of Nottingham for the documentary Our Dementia Choir.

The series saw McClure take on a personal journey where she sets out to discover the true extent of music’s power in combating dementia.

She formed a choir of people all living with dementia in Nottingham to see whether music can make a measurable difference in their lives.

Earlier this year, McClure made an appearance at the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at Nottingham University Hospital’s Queen’s Medical Centre.

She spent time with patients on the ward and read them a section of her first children’s book, The Castle Rock Mystery Crew.

Where does Vicky McClure live now?

McClure has resisted swapping Nottingham for the bright lights of London and still lives in the city with her husband Jonny Owen.

Speaking about her life in Nottingham to the Guardian in 2022, she said: “I know everyone around here. I love my neighbours and everybody’s very normal to me, because I’m normal to them."

With regards to football, the actor has previously gone on record to say that she supports Notts County. However, her dad and sister are both Forest fans. Her husband, Jonny, is a Forest director.
