As regular readers will have sussed out by now, we here at Nottingham World love nothing more than celebrating the weird and wonderful parts of the city.
Whether it be the eerie catacombs beneath Rock Cemetery or why there’s a huge metal dragon perched next to a road in Sneinton, Nottingham certainly has its quirks.
It’s also very exciting for us when we get to show you abandoned buildings, such as the Strathdon Hotel in Derby Road and nearby Ropewalk pub in Canning Circus.
Whilst we do love an abandoned building, Nottingham is also good for mysterious abandoned infrastructure, particularly tunnels.
But what if we told you that there’s an abandoned road just outside Nottingham city centre that thousands of people drive past every day without realising?
Sounds impossible, right?
Ant Daykin, who runs the Trekking Exploration YouTube channel, regularly visits lost and abandoned sites across the East Midlands.
In a recent video, Ant visited the abandoned Colwick Road, which used to run from the village of Colwick into Nottingham city centre.
Colwick Road was closed in the 1980s and replaced by the busy Daleside Road, but the remains of the former route can still be seen.
The original Colwick Road was built on the closed and abandoned Great Northern Railway trackbed that once ran into Nottingham.
Below are more photos of the road, kindly shared with Nottingham World by Ant.
