Woman charged with murder after pensioner found dead in Nottingham home

A woman has been charged with murder after a pensioner was found dead in his home in Nottingham.
Barry Spooner, 74, was found dead on Gladstone Street in Forest Fields around 8pm on June 7 after concerns were raised about his welfare.

Hide AdHe died after suffering stab wounds and it is thought he may have been dead for some time before he was found.
Sarah Hansford, 44, of Brunswick Avenue in Coalville, Leicestershire has now been charged with his murder.
She has also been charged with robbery in relation to another incident.


Two men, aged 58 and 53, have been released on bail whilst an investigation continues.

Hide AdPaying tribute to Mr Spooner in a statement, his family said: “Barry was a kind and gentle man loved by all in our family.
“He was a great brother and a dear uncle who was taken away far too early. He will be sadly missed by all.
“He was a devoted family man who would help anyone in need. It is sad for us that no farewell words were spoken and that we had no time to say goodbye to him. He was gone before we knew it.”
DCI Clare Dean, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “A team has been working around the clock on this investigation and I am pleased we have now been able to charge a suspect.
“As our investigation continues, our thoughts will remain with Barry’s family and all who knew him.”
