Only true Nottingham citizens will have done all 10

Here in England we usually take great pride in our hometown.

Whether you’re from Nottingham, Newcastle or Norwich, our formative years are often heavily influenced by our surroundings.

Our attitudes to things like politics, sport and music can hinge on the geographical location where we spent the most time growing up.

If you’ve lived in Nottingham for all or most of your life, then there’s a good chance the city is an important part of your identity.

As we get older we slowly realise that there are certain routines we’ve fallen into over many years, with many involving the area we live in.

While the good people of Nottingham all have unique personalities and varying interests, there are a few behaviours that connect us all together.

We’ve picked out 10 things that you’ve more than likely done if you’ve lived in Nottingham your whole life - a form of citizenship test, if you will.

Let us know how many you’ve done!

Met someone at the Emett Clock

Many think it should still be on the Victoria Centre’s llower mall, but that’s a debate for another day.

The Emett Clock has been a popular meeting place for Nottingham residents out shopping since 1973.

Shopping can be exhausting business, so it’s a good job we’ve got Birds Bakery in Lister Gate to provide us with some much needed fuel.

The question is, what’s your go-to snack?

It’s quite easy to spend an hour or so people-watching and relaxing on a warm day.

Gone on a school trip to Nottingham Castle

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes and visiting Nottingham Castle on a school trip.

The Arboretum is such an iconic park, so it’s fair to say many of us will have paid it a visit at one point or another.

The park’s four cannon will have appeared in many childhood photos over the years.

Met someone by the Left Lion

Much like the Emett Clock, the famous Left Lion by the Council House is one of the city’s most notorious meeting places.

Leo, as he’s came to be known, is a Nottingham icon.

Used a tram

I mean, can you really call yourself a true Nottingham citizen if you haven’t used a tram?

The Nottingham Express Transit network has been connecting the city since 2004.

Each year more than 250 rides and attractions transform the Forest Recreation Ground into a sea of neon.

Regardless of your age, it’s always spending a couple of hours at the Goose Fair.

Rock City has hosted the likes of Oasis, Nirvana and Blur since opening in 1980.

Attending a gig here is a rite of passage for any self-respecting Nottingham citizen.

Chosen between Forest and County

You can’t be both - it’s as simple as that.

Whether your allegiances lie with Notts County or Nottingham Forest, there’s no denying Nottingham is a football mad city!
