Also, there has never been a better time to support local given the cost of living increases and the energy crisis which has been hitting businesses hard.

Here are some of our suggestions:

1 - Wolf Wytch Apothecary

It’s worth choosing a gift from the apothecary shop in Sneinton market just to have an excuse to visit the beautifully designed store. Think quirky candles, crystals and wax melts with a twist. Owner Lauren Wolf makes all of the wax products herself.

The shop opened in the autumn of last year and has amassed a strong follower base who love the scented candles, natural products and vegan stance.

2 - Handmade Nottingham

If you are stuck on what to buy but fancy having more choices then Handmade is the one to head to. The shop stocks everything from plants to notepads to badges all with a Nottingham twist.

We love the felt plants made by Laura Gardner Textiles to give as a gift as they are impossible to kill! The perfect all-year-round present that doesn’t need any watering. You can find the shop on King’s Walk in the city centre.

3 - Sap Plants

Chan from Sap Plants is an expert on all things plant and if you are stuck, she can recommend the perfect plant for your parent. Sap Plants pops up in different locations so it’s a good idea to follow on social media to make sure you are in the loop about where to go.

That said, there is a permanent collection on display that you can buy at Nottingham Contemporary in the cafe downstairs. A good excuse to grab a latte and a few leaves while you are there.

4 - Bone Arrow

Bone Arrow in Sneinton is perfect for the mum who loves unique jewellery. The beautiful designs are one of a kind and expertly made by the owner, Clare who is often onsite. You can see her working away in the Sneinton-based store so it’s a good opportunity to ask for advice on how to measure, choose and what to select.

While all of the jewellery is incredible, it’s the silver rings that feature a selection of stones that catch our eye every time.

5 - Studio Chocolate lessons

If you want to nab something a bit different, why not choose a masterclass in chocolate making? Studio Chocolate has an upstairs workshop on Thurland Street where you can make something truly tasty.

If you want to just grab and go, they also have a store on Cobden Chambers where you can pick up a box and curate your selection. Warning - it’s very hard to get out without buying a treat or two for yourself.

6 - Five Leaves

Nottingham is home to some great authors who have written a novel or two. You can find a selection of local works at Five Leaves Bookshop off Long Row in the city centre. The bookshop is crammed with the very best in books with, in particular, an excellent LGBT+ selection.

7 - Luisa’s Vegan Chocolates

Luisa’s vegan chocolates are a good choice for a gift as they manage to combine the tastiest ingredients with some unusual ones like turmeric or wild rose.

If you are stuck on what to pick up, Luisa and the team are very helpful and can make a suggestion or two. Alternatively, they do selection boxes such as The Quirky Infusions White Chocolate Collection or limited edition sets where you can try a bit of everything.
