From Pryzm to Palais: Everything we know about the reopening of iconic Nottingham nightclub
It’s reopening to mark the Palais’ 100th anniversary. We’ve even got some clues about the nightclub’s new logo.
Last Friday (July 25) it was confirmed that Nottingham’s former PRYZM nightclub in Lower Parliament Street will reopen later this year as The Palais.

After opening on April 22, 1925 as the Palais de Danse, the building went on to become one of Nottingham’s most iconic nightlife spots for many generations.
Despite several name changes over the decades, such as Ritzy and Oceana, the Lower Parliament Street nightclub retained its vibrant spirit right up until its closure earlier this year.
It’s certainly been a turbulent few months for the building, with serious doubts surrounding its future as recent as last week.
Below we’ve rounded up the nightclub’s eventful 2024 so far - and what we can expect to happen over the next few months.
February 2024
In early February, PRYZM owner Rekom confirmed that the nightclub would close with immediate effect.
In a statement, Rekom’s chairman Peter Marks revealed that the business had been unable to reach an agreement with the building’s landlord.
As a result, PRYZM closed on February 2, leaving its staff redundant.
April 2024
At the start of April, Nottingham World visited the Lower Parliament Street building, where signs of deterioration could be seen.
With two months having passed since PRYZM’s closure was confirmed, the majority of the building’s access points were covered with metal sheeting.

Faded fly-posters of then-cancelled events remained attached to the exterior, while rubbish collected in doorways.
At this point, the future of the building was unknown.
July 2024
After more than five months of radio silence, last week news broke that the building would be reopened as The Palais by new owners DHP Family.
Here are a few things we know about the reopening so far:
- The Palais will open its doors in mid-September
- It will offer “a diverse array of events for Nottingham” and “bring dancing back to its well-trodden dancefloor”
- Work is already underway to provide the venue with a new stage and PA system
- The Palais will be available for private hire, with bookings now being taken
One thing we don’t know for certain is what kind of logo will stand above the building’s iconic doorway.
However, if the venue’s shiny new website is anything to go by, The Palais will have an italic-style logo when it opens in September.
Only time will tell whether the venue’s new logo will be inspired by its long history or offer a fresh new look.
