BEAR, a dog-friendly and inclusive coffee shop, will be taking over the Carlton Street space left behind by Boca Lima which closed its doors in February this year. The cafe space will be in the former Boca Lima premises which has already undergone a paint job ready for the opening.

Boca Lima closed its doors in February although there was no explanation as to why the usually busy bar closed. There was no mention on social media of why it closed.

On its website, BEAR wrote: “Our Hockley store will bring the same dedication to speciality coffee, seasonal fresh food, and cocktails that has made us a beloved brand throughout the Midlands.”

Founded by best friends, Craig and Michael, BEAR opened its first store in Uttoxeter in 2016 and has since expanded to have six fronts across Derby, Stone and Northwich.

According to its website, BEAR is founded on positive culture and ethically-led brand value and it places an emphasis on the brand’s commitment to inclusivity, sustainability, innovation, connection and “doing the right thing”.

The Hockley addition to the BEAR franchise will also host the newly launched Later at BEAR concept. This will run from 5pm daily and introduces fully-stacked smash burgers, taco trays, loaded fries, and twisted cocktail classics to the menu.
