8 of the best beer gardens in Nottingham for good weather
There is no better bank holiday activity then a nice sunny afternoon pint in a good beer garden. Here are 8 of our favourite pub gardens in Nottinghamshire
The weather is set to be scorching this weekend which is a good thing too considering it's a bank holiday. When it comes to a long weekend, there is nothing better than a leisurely pint with your mates in a beer garden.
Saturday’s weather is due to hit highs of 22 while Sunday is set for 18. The good weather continues into Monday and is expected to be 16.
While there are obvious choices around town but then there are some hidden spots just waiting to be found.
1 - King Billy Rooftop Garden
Sneinton
King Billy can be found in Sneinton and the rooftop garden is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. It’s half under cover and half not so you can get some sun or shade depending on preference, or whatever is free. The garden can get busy so it's worth getting there early.
The secret pizza is also worth getting involved in as it combines unusual blends of ingredients with locally sourced produce. Even the flour for the pizza comes from the windmill further up the road.
2- Liquid Light outdoor area
Alfred Street
Liquid Light is also in Sneinton so why not combine the two? The taproom is tucked away in the middle of an industrial park but when the shutters roll up, they reveal the bar, space to sit and vegan burger favourites Mocky-D who are permanently parked in the venue.
The laid-back atmosphere of the pub makes it a great spot for a mid-afternoon stop or a much later evening stroll on in.
3 - Another? wine bar
Trinity Square
Another? is a deceptively big venue because when you walk up the slim stairs, it's tempting to think the main room is the only one it has. As well as another floor above the wine room, there is a huge outdoor garden at the back. It is completely concealed so you have no idea it's there unless you walk through, go down the stairs and around the balcony then down more stairs.
While cider in the sun is one thing, Another? focuses on wines giving you the option to pour your own. Keep an eye on what you pour as prices vary but you can find the more unusual wines expertly sourced so it's a chance to try something new.
4 - Canalhouse Bar
Canalside
A Nottingham classic and a popular favourite among locals for obvious reasons. It’s hard to argue why a canal-side seat in a beer garden where you can watch the boats and birds float past is not a good shout. If you need further convincing, there is an actual canal boat in the pub which has a cute bridge connecting two sides. Sold.
5 - Navigation
Canal Side
If you fancy more canal options then Navigation is a bit further down and also a great place to go. The food here is great and they do a fantastic bowl of chips which makes good soakage for mid-afternoon pints. Again, as the name suggests, it's canal side so you’ll be able to watch more boats and birds float past as you have a cheeky chip or two over a drink.
6 - The Victoria
Dovecote Lane, Beeston
If you carry on walking the canal into Beeston or, like us, cheat and take the train, then you have a lot of options as far as pubs go. We love the Vic for several reasons including the history which is hung all over the walls for you to have a glance at. It's worth mentioning that train literally stops outside the pub so you can walk through a small gate into the pub from the platform.
We also love the food which is some of the best pub grub in Nottinghamshire and worthy of a stop all on its own. The cheeseboard at the Vic is a personal favourite thanks to the ever-changing lineup of cheese on offer.
7 - Magic Garden
Middle Pavement
Magic Garden is a beautifully decorated bar in the middle of the city centre which has a huge outdoor seating area. The garden often has several events throughout the year including outdoor cinema nights which show a range of old-school classics such as Jurassic Park.
The bar is given a seasonal makeover from time to time including Halloween, winter and summer-inspired touches. The sheer size of it is surprising as it conceals two side rooms and the garden.
8 - The Crown Inn
Church Street
Back into Beeston and the Crown is one of the best in the town. The pub has a laid-back, friendly atmosphere which makes it perfect for chilling out. You could easily read a book or with mates to spend time here as anything goes. You will find at least one dog in the pub at any given time too which makes it a great spot for animal lovers.
The beer garden also hosts street food pop-ups occasionally so a glance on the social media pages will tell you who is booked for this weekend.
