Nottingham Pride 2023 is one of the biggest celebrations of the year. Here is our guide on where to go

When it comes to celebrations in the city, Nottingham Pride has gone from strength to strength since its creation in 1997. Last year saw one of the biggest ever Pride marches with thousands joining the festivities which traditionally start at Lister Gate before moving to Broad Street in Hockley - the heart of Nottingham’s queer scene.

This year, there are so many celebrations being announced that getting your calendar organised early is the only way to make sure you catch the best events there are to offer. We’ve done the hard work of rounding up all of the very best events, so you don’t have to.

Here are the ones to watch:

Nottingham Pride Parade

The parade is the highlight of the day as far from being just about the glitter and glam, it’s also a chance for the community to come together to protest. It starts at Lister Gate before heading up Wheeler Gate, across Long Row and up Pelham Street before heading to Broad Street.

Broad Street is where the celebrations start with several stalls being run by services on offer to the community. It’s a great chance to visit the LGBT+ bars on the street including Lord Roberts and The GOAT or even the supportive Broadway bar. Organised by the Notts Pride team, this is a famously free event which keeps Pride accessible to all.

Lord Roberts

The Lord Roberts is a must-visit during the Pride celebrations and this year is no exception. The team will be celebrating with the return of their street party. The street party has been one of the highlights of Pride for the past two years and one to head to after the stalls/march to get the party started.

The New Foresters

The New Foresters is one of the oldest LGBT+ venues in the UK and one of the best places to pop in for a Pride drink. The bar will be opening early for The Big Pride Party which starts at midday with three bars, six DJs along with food including burgers and cheesy fries.

There will also be a drag queen cabaret along with indoor and outdoor seating in the newly renovated pub. It costs £3 on the door which will be donated to local LGBT+ charities.

THE GOAT

The Goat stands for ‘Greatest Of All Time’ and it’s a recent addition to Broad Street’s vibrant pub and restaurant scene. The distinctive pink bar took over one-half of Botti De Mamma in 202 and has been thriving ever since.

This year will be its second celebration and it is in a prime Pride location.

Broadway

While Broadway isn’t a completely LGBT+ venue, it has been incredibly supportive of the community all year round by showing many queer films.

Binks Yard

Binks Yard will be celebrating its first Pride since the launch of the venue late last year. The team have joined forces with Groovebox to celebrate with an event that will see Todd Terry, Horse Meat Disco in attendance. Binks Yard offers the best venue to soak up some riverside fun post-city centre march and there will also be performances from drag acts such as Ru Paul’s Drag Race alumni, Tayce and Danny Beard.

Tickets are already on sale for the event.

Gladrags

The Gladrags party is not to be missed thanks to the incredible lineup of drag performers. Athena Barbital, Issa Mood and Coco Deville are just some of the amazing performers set to take to the stage at Metronome on Huntingdon Street. Nana Arthole and Marilyn Sane are a hilarious double act and the team has the finger on the pulse when it comes to cutting-edge drag performers.

Music will range from pop to alternative to LGBT+ anthems from Dj Luxxxury, Baby Tap and Boz. Ticket sales will help to go towards Notts LGBT+ Network to support the great work they do for the community.

It’s worth noting that Gladrags will also be at the centre of the party in Rough Trade from 12 pm to 7 pm with live music, drag performers and DJs.

Secret Garden

Nottingham’s Secret Garden can be found on Trinity Walk and it will be hosting a summer party featuring the best LQBTIQA+ dance floor anthems. Early bird tickets are sold out but there are still some available from £20.00.

Hidden on Long Row

This is the second year that the Pride rooftop party will take over Hidden Warehouse on Long Row. Tucked down Swann Yard near Five Leaves Bookshop, the rooftop is a bit of a secret gem sunspot to spend a few hours in. This year will see the addition of tasty food from the Hip Hop Food Shop which operates the food hall on the second floor.

Tickets are free but you can book one for priority entrance.

Five Leaves

Pride can be an overwhelming time for some especially those who are neurodivergent. Five Leaves bookshop not only has a brilliant LGBT+ section but they will be holding a read-in. A silent, comfortable where you can bring a book and find space to breathe. Saturday, June 29.
