It can be really tricky to eat out with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance. You need to be sure that a restaurant is safe and sometimes, it can mean calling ahead to ask those difficult questions.
That said, it is always worth asking to make sure that a place is following the law when it comes to labelling things gluten-free and cross contamination is a risk of eating out. All is not lost though as Nottingham has got a lot of different options for allergy-free from pastries to pies to Vietnamese food. It’s just where to go to find them!
We list seven of our favourites spots across Nottinghamshire from Beeston to Sherwood to the city centre with incredible dishes
1. Carolina’s Chilli makes amazing vegan Mexican food which is all gluten free. You can order to your heart’s content knowing everything is safe and extremely tasty
Carolina’s Chilli is a pop up so that means you need to keep an eye on their social media sites to see where they will go next but its worth the walk
2. What is an article about food without a mention of where to go for cake in the city?
The Pudding Pantry have a lot of options from cake to tapas for gluten-free visitors. We love their Sherwood location but they also have one in Beeston and just off Trinity Square
3. Vietnamese food can be a great option for gluten free dishes as a lot are made from rice including summer rolls. Paste in Hockley has clearly marked the GF options on their detailed menu
It couldn’t be easier to order thanks to the clearly marked options on the menu. A relief as ordering can be tricky in a few locations or complicated
4. It is really hard to find a good pie - let alone a gluten free one! Nottingham’s Pieminister is a favourite with gluten free options including the gravy.
Just make sure you double check its gluten free but staff are well informed on allergy friendly options.
