Visitors will learn about the dungeons “dark and gruesome tales”

Visitors to Nottingham Castle this summer are invited to descend deep into the bowels of the historic building by taking a tour of King David’s Dungeon.

Legend has it that King David II of Scotland was held prisoner in the dungeon for 11 years, supposedly scratching the story of Christ into the sandstone walls with his fingernails.

Those brave enough to visit the dungeon will learn about its “dark and gruesome tales”.

Despite the infamous legend, experts believe it’s unlikely that a Royal prisoner would have been kept underground in the 14th century.

Tours will run on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer.

Tickets are priced at £5 on top of regular Castle admission.
