A Nottingham author is launching an interactive story telling workshop based on his children’s book for Nottingham Pride

The interactive storytelling and workshop will take place at the Lace Market Square in Hockley as part of the Pride celebrations on Saturday, July 29 from 2 pm. The event is open to children between the ages of 3 to 9 but older children are welcome to attend.

Troy Jenkinson is an author and an EDI Education Specialist, who released his first book, ‘The Best Mummy Snails in the Whole Wide World’ in 2019. The book is available through Amazon and Five Leaves Bookshop.

The story explores the relationship between Felicity and Jane, two African Snails who start a family together and bring two delightful baby snails into the world. The workshop will allow children to listen to an inclusive story, create posters, craft snails and have their faces painted.

“I am excited to have been asked to lead a workshop for Nottingham Pride this year for children and families. It will be an interactive session that will be fun for all the family. Come along and meet the characters and take away a memento from the event,” said Troy.

Nottingham Pride is one of the biggest city centre events of the year with an extra 11,000 people expected to join the festivities this year. There are multiple events throughout the day including drag shows, stalls, film screenings and also, the storytelling workshop.

The theme of this year’s Pride is ‘together’ which is aimed at encouraging all sections of the LGBT+ community to come together in solidarity. Troy is also the creator of the LGBT+ history walking map which was designed during Covid and takes walkers on a tour of all of the venues that have played a part in the creation of Nottingham’s vibrant community.

The workshop will also take place at Derbyshire’s Belper Pride on August 5th
