Thousands of festival fans arrived at Wollaton Park for the last day of Splendour Festival to sunshine as rain clouds finally lift

The weather was far from perfect for festival temperatures for the first day at the festival but it hasn’t deterred many from attending. The Met forecast for Sunday, July 23 sees temperatures hit 21° but does predict rain returning at 7 pm this evening.

At least the earlier hours of sun will give the grounds of Wollaton Park time to dry out ahead of the evening performances from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Confidence Man, Sam Ryder and Jake Shears.

The Splendour Festival 2023 uniform of umbrellas, rain macs, hats and makeshift tents has given way to suncream, bucket hats and sunglasses for the morning in the meantime. Fans enjoyed performances from Madness, Rudimental and Sugababes yesterday despite the weather.

Rudimental were a clear crowd favourite as they brought the spirits up with high energy performance. If they brought things up then Madness brought the house down and closed the show on Saturday night on the main stage. The band are known to be excellent live performers and this is their second Splendour set in recent years.

Other stages were already packed throughout the morning with a large audience enjoying Electric Pet at the Courtyard Stage. Alternative entertainment includes a silent disco and Beatles Dub Club.

Becki Adcock from Wollaton, 19 is here to see Sam Ryder. “I love him at Eurovision so I’m excited to see him live. I’ve been to Splendour before and it’s always worth coming,” she said.

Kym Shepard from West Bridgford said to Nottingham World: “I’m so grateful it’s not raining. I don’t even care what happens this afternoon but I really hope it dry for Noel Gallagher later on.”

“I love Splendour but yesterday was a bit damp. I’m really hoping today stays like this. It got a bit too muddy yesterday but it was worth it to finally see Madness,” said Sam Groddock.
