Idris Elba and Tom Hardy - Who we'd cast in a live-action adaptation of Disney's Robin Hood
It will come as little to no surprise that we are obsessed with Robin Hood. Our swashbuckling local hero is our pride and joy and we love to see his story adapted for the stage and screen.
Last week we asked ChatGPT to rank TV and movie adaptations of Robin Hood based on historical accuracy. And in response to this one of our readers made a comment on Facebook that set our creative juices in motion.

Hide AdHe suggested Disney make a live-action Robin Hood. So we asked you, our readers, who you'd cast in the movie, and there were some epic suggestions.
So we put them together, alongside some of our own ideas, into an article for your enjoyment. Of course, Disney has no plans to make this dream a reality but we're nothing if not hopeful.
Robin Hood
Call me weird but even in fox-form, I think Robin Hood is pretty hot, so it's only right our maverick hero is played by a Hollywood heart-throb.
Reader suggestions included Tom Hardy (yes please), Idris Elba, and Jason Statham. We'd also like to throw Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland and John Boyega into the mix because we reckon they'd make for memorable auditions.

Hide AdOne reader also suggested Game Of Thrones star Joe Dempsie which would be very appropriate given he is a major Nottingham Forest fan!
Little John
Whoever plays Little John has got to be able to bring light relief to serious situations. They must be funny, kind and robust.
Our top pick to play this super sidekick is Ncuti Gatwa, if we can convince him to take a break from playing the new Doctor Who or taking over Hollywood.
It might also be interesting to see a woman take on this role, we think Emma Thompson would bring a fresh dynamic and a new perspective to this classic role.

Hide AdSherriff of Nottingham
The tyrannous Sherriff is the ultimate baddie and no one played bad guys quite like Alan Rickman.
While we don't think we'll ever find a replacement (a sentiment shared among readers) we do think for comedic value and bad-boy charm Mr Danny Dyer could do a good job.
If we've got a big enough budget (this is Disney) Hollywood legend John Travolta could be another good option for the evil Sherriff of Nottingham.
Ok, here us out - we can also see Gary Oldman totally rocking in this role. He's versatile, and intense and would add a sprinkle of Oscar-worthy charm to the movie.

Hide AdMaid Marian
We should probably have a backup plan in case I, renowned actress and mega star, Abigail Rabbett, don't get cast to star alongside Tom Hardy as Maid Marian.
Other options include Keira Knightly - we're thinking about her Atonement / Pride and Prejudice days. Or Emily Blunt because she's a national treasure and therefore deserving of such a prestigious role.
An honourable mention also goes to Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood, who we think could be stunning in this starring role.
Lady Kluck
The role of Lady Kluck might not be the most historically accurate but she is an important and valued role in the Disney rendition of Robin Hood.

Hide AdShe must be maternal, kind, and - like all the best female supporting roles - a little bit raunchy.
Our picks for Lady Kluck include the one and only Miriam Margolyes, British favourite Dawn French or the iconic Olivia Coleman.
Prince John
Prince John is arguably the most difficult role to cast. He is ambitious and will gladly obliterate anything or anyone standing between him and the throne. We need someone who can be ruthless and command respect from our audience.
My picks are David Tennant, Liam Neeson or GOT actor Kit Harrington.

Hide AdKing Richard
This is really our opportunity to bring in some big names. There are a few options to play regal King Richard. Our ruler must be wise, stoic, and able to lead us to battle.
To my mind there are three solid options: Sir Michael Caine, Sir Anthony Hopkins or Sir Ian McKellen. We can't choose between them.
Friar Tuck
For some reason the whole way through this, the only actor I could picture playing Friar Tuck was Hugh Grant.
He is a lovable rogue and although he might have to gain a few pounds and lose some hair for this role, he has just made his debut as an Oompa Loompa in the latest Willy Wonka film, so we think he'd be down for playing the Friar.

Hide AdSo in conclusion we would need an enormous budget for our make-believe live-action Disney adaptation of Robin Hood but it would be epic and Oscar-worthy for sure. It would be an enviable who's who of iconic actors and actresses.
