Seven places to watch The Women’s World Cup in Nottingham
Here are some of the best pubs in Nottinghamshire to watch the Women’s World Cup which is due to start this week
With the Women’s World Cup due to get going in two days time - the opening match taking place between New Zealand and Norway this Thursday - various pubs and bars around Nottingham will be showing the action with the Lionesses kicking off their Women’s World Cup campaign this coming Saturday.
With the tournament held out in Australia and New Zealand, most of the kick-off times see England play early in the morning - the opening match sees Sarina Wiegman’s team play Haiti at 10:30am. Still, that shouldn’t thwart spectators in pubs and bars across Nottingham with many opening their doors to accommodate for an earlier than usual pint.
Where should you go to watch the action? Here’s a few places you should consider…
1. Southbank Bar
The Southbank Bar situated in Nottingham city centre could well be an option for England’s first game at this year’s Women’s World Cup and beyond.
Confirming on their social media that they will be showing all three of the Lionesses’ group games out in Australia and New Zealand, the Southbank Bar will be a busy spot you imagine with its spacious interior and multiple screens dotted around the bar for everyone to get the best seat in the house.
2. Sherwood Manor
This Hungry Horse pub located in the Sherwood region of the City will also be another host for all the action England Women’s take part in at this World Cup.
Showing England’s first 90 minutes versus Haiti, Sherwood Manor will also show Denmark versus China from Group D showcasing England’s opponents after the Haiti test. With a large section of alcohol and food on offer, this could well be the desired and relaxed location of choice to cheer the Lionesses on from.
3. Saltbox Bar
Moving back to the heart of Nottingham for this potential option, Saltbox Bar is a bustling sports bar that will offer some special deals for punters wanting to watch the Lionesses on their many screens.
Having to put £10 forward per person to secure a place in Saltbox, punters will get a breakfast and either a coffee or a cold beer to accompany their food as a result of the admission fee. If you have a child that’s under 12, the food is on the house. This sounds like a great deal, Saltbox a fantastic bar to watch the Women’s World Cup from.
4. O’Neills
The first Irish pub and bar on the list, O’Neills will be showing all three of England’s Group D games as Sarina Wiegman’s team aim for World Cup success.
Boasting a ‘real big game atmosphere’ on their website, O’Neills does offer plenty of screens, many pint options and food to tuck into if you’re peckish whilst watching the Lionesses play. Available to book now for a space, O’Neills looks as if it’ll be a popular option for the people of Nottingham during the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
5. The Woulds
Not far off the River Trent that snakes through the City, the fifth option on this list is the Woulds pub.
The second Hungry Horse pub on the list, the Woulds is more central than Sherwood Manor and could well attract customers for the Women’s World Cup. The pub still offers character despite being a chain establishment - the Woulds first opening its doors in the 1930’s - and so should not be dismissed as a viable pub destination to watch Millie Bright and co kick their World Cup campaign off from.
6. The Three Crowns
On The Three Crowns website, it celebrates the fact that the pub will always give a ‘warm welcome’ to punters coming through its doors. With the kick-off times falling in the early morning, this could well be the sanctuary of choice for Lionesses fans wanting to take it easy whilst watching their nation play.
The Three Crowns can be found on Upper Parliament Street, with beers, cocktails and spirits available if you want to liven up the atmosphere too!
7. The Trent Navigation Inn
The final option could well be the most tantalising if you fancy a raucous experience watching the Lionesses, the Trent Navigation Inn - located nearby to Notts County’s Meadow Lane stadium - boasts the largest outdoor screen in the Midlands for live sport in the Big Shed.
The Big Shed can house up to 500 people, with live music events and more also taking place within the vicinity on a regular basis.
Opening from 9:30am for the 10:30am match between England and Haiti this coming Saturday, expect the Big Shed to be packed to the rafters with no price admission to get in and plenty of food and drink available throughout the 90 minutes!
