‘Story of the season’ - Notts County fans react to heartbreaking defeat to promotion rivals Wrexham

Notts County fans are already having their say on Monday’s heartbreaking away defeat to promotion rivals Wrexham.

It was billed as the title decider with just a handful of games remaining and both County and Wrexham locked on 100 points at the top of the table. In truth, there was greater pressure on County heading into the game, given Wrexham also have a game in-hand, meaning the title was in their hands going into the game.

And if it wasn’t before, it certainly is now, with the Welsh side coming out on top after a thrilling contest at the Racecourse. County led through John Bostock heading into half-time, but Wrexham rallied into a second-half lead, and even after Kyle Cameron’s leveller, the Dragons would find the winner through Elliott Lee with 15 minutes remaining.

Notts County almost snatched a point right at the death when they were awarded a spot-kick five minutes into stoppage time, but Ben Foster pulled off a fine save to break County hearts.

The result means Wrexham now have a three goal lead at the top, while also having a game in-hand. There is still some hope for County, but it now looks as though the play-offs are a much more likely path to League Two.
