All you need to know ahead of Notts County’s crucial trip to Wrexham as the top two in the National League battle it out

Notts County travel to Wales this afternoon to take on Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground. Both sides are locked on 100 points at the top of the National League table.

The Magpies’ goal difference is +3 better than their opponents but Phil Parkinson’s side still have a game in-hand. However, they were beaten 3-1 away at FC Halifax Town last time out which raised a few eyebrows.

Who gets promoted?

First place goes up automatically to League Two from the fifth tier. 2nd down to 7th then compete in the play-offs.

How many games are left?

After today, Notts County will have three matches left to play of this season. They take on 3rd place Woking at home, already relegated Maidstone United away and then York City at Meadow Lane on the final day of the campaign.

A win for Luke Williams’ men today would put put them three points clear. However, Wrexham would leapfrog them if they won their match in-hand and scored a few goals in that one in the process to boost their goal difference.

The Red Dragons have Barnet away after their clash against Notts County followed by back-to-back home games against Yeovil Town and Boreham Wood. They then finish off away at Torquay United.

How long have the pair been out of the Football League?

Notts County were relegated from the Football League in 2019 and have since failed to get out of non-league. Wrexham, on the other hand, haven’t been in the top four divisions since 2008.
