Hide AdSteve Cooper’s men are just goal difference from safety with a game in-hand, and on Monday night, they take on a Southampton side in the last chance saloon, currently six points from safety. Forest still have to face Arsenal, Chelsea and Crystal Palace in their last three games, and so they almost certainly must beat Southampton if they want to have a chance of surviving this season.
Though, with just one win in their last 13, preparations for this one have hardly been ideal, and Cooper has his work cut out to rally his troops for the final run-in.
There is also the added difficulty of injuries, and Forest have plenty of them as they approach their final four games. Danilo is out with a hamstring injury, while Brennan Johnson is a doubt following a knock. Cooper said of the forward: “Brennan had a knock as well. He was another one who had given a lot the other day.”

Hide AdNeco Williams is sidelined for the season with a fractured jaw, but there is good news for Jonjo Shelvey, with Cooper adding: “Jonjo is available. He was carrying a knock last week and there was one or two other things. It wasn’t as much of a drama as was said. In some ways it was a normal training ground thing. But it is past us, everybody is good. He is 100 per cent available.”
Elsewhere, Scott McKenna, Jack Colback, Chris Wood, Dean Henderson, Omar Richards and Giulian Biancone are all out, while Willy Bolly and Gustavo Scarpa remain doubts and are unlikely to feature.
As for Southampton, Juan Larios (thigh) and Romain Perraud (ankle) are out for the season, while Mohammed Salisu is also out. Tino Livramento won’t quite make it back in time for this one, but Paul Onuachu should be in contention after getting over a knock.
