From Nottingham Castle to the National Justice Museum, we all know that Nottingham has a rich history.
But while certain sites have been well-maintained over the years, it’s fair to say that others have very much not.
According to Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register, as many as 20 Nottingham landmarks are at risk of being lost forever.
The register gives an annual snapshot of the health of England’s valued historic buildings and places.
Over the past year hundreds of historic buildings and sites have been added to the register because they are at risk of neglect, decay or inappropriate development.
Here in Nottingham, there are 20 sites on the register, including the Arboretum and Wollaton Hall.
Many of the city sites on the register are ‘listed’ buildings, meaning they have special protection by law.
Every entry on the register is given a priority rating, which includes whether any corrective action has been decided upon.
We’ve picked out 10 iconic Nottingham sites that are on Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register.
