9 loved and lost Nottingham estate pubs that stood for generations
Nottingham has a long history when it comes to pubs.
After all, the city is home to two of the oldest pubs in England - the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem and Ye Olde Salutation Inn.

Due to rising costs and decreasing footfall, hundreds of once-popular city boozers have shut their doors over the past two decades.
Many of these have been in the city centre, but perhaps more noticeable is the loss of many estate pubs since the turn of the century.

Often recognised by their flat-roof design, estate pubs started appearing in the 1950s and ‘60s.
As a result of rapid post-war residential construction, more pubs were built between 1945 and 1985 than in any similar period of time in UK history.
Many new housing estates were designed to incorporate a new pub, which would then become the centre of the community.

As a result, many of these flat-roofed pubs were subsequently demolished and lost forever.
