Six of Nottingham’s best places to go for Thai food

Nottingham is home to so many truly amazing Thai restaurants it can be difficult to know where to go. We’ve rounded up some of the best places to get you started.

1- Paste Contemporary Thai

Carlton Street

There is no such thing as a bad meal at Paste thanks to the friendly yet incredibly attentive staff. The huge menu is incredibly varied with street food favourites such as Hainanese and Thai-style chicken with aromatic rice, served with chef’s special sauce, accompanied by chicken broth or classic dishes such as red Thai curry. It also boasts traditional dishes such as the mouthwatering Pad Thai noodle recipes passed down by the chef’s grandmother, served with a choice of chicken or tofu.

2 - Lobster Pot

Mansfield Road

The Lobster Pot is worth the walk up Mansfield Road hill even if it is long. The small intimate venue is an absolute find for seafood lovers or Thai food fans as it combines a perfectly curated combination of both. The salmon with caramelised red onion sauce is a particular favourite although, if you are feeling extra then you could give the ultimate seafood platter a go.

Be warned though, the platter is described as a sharing plate and contains lobster, crab claws, grilled garlic oysters, king prawns, steamed mussels and scallops. You may need to draft in a mate to come with you to complete the dish.

3 - Giggling Squid

Bridgford Road

The Giggling Squid mean you have to cross the bridge into West Bridgford but it's not a bad shout as the town is becoming a great alternative to the city centre. Husband and wife co-founders Pranee and Andy started Giggling Squid out of a determination to bring the buzz of Thai meals to the UK which resulted in the tapas selection that the restaurant offers.

The beautifully decorated restaurant is worth a visit for the pork dumplings which are filled with tender pork and served with a gingery light soy and rice vinegar dip. A close second favourite would be the Thai Spice Rice Balls featuring flavoursome red curry spiced rice balls with a mushroom and sweet water chestnut filling. Served with a Thai salsa of red chillies, orange segments, jicama and Thai shallots and a drizzle of tamarind chilli sauce.

4 - Rosa Thai

King Street

Rosa’s Thai is one of the newer restaurants to set up in Nottingham’s city centre and it has been gathering a following among food fans for its flavourful dishes. The menu has been given a springtime makeover with new lighter dishes popping up.

The rice paper spring rolls are a light yet tangy dish helped along by the hotness of the chilli sauce on the side.

6- Zaap Thai

Bromley Place

Zaap can be found on Bromley Place which is just off Angel Row in the city centre. The chain restaurant is part of a chain across the UK which offers exceptionally good food at reasonable prices in a very well-decorated setting. There is plenty to choose from here from spicy fish cakes to the Bangkok veggie platter so there really is something for everyone.

The desserts are also worth a try especially the khaow niew sang ka ya which is sweetened black sticky rice with Thai custard.
