Amber warning remains in effect as experts forecast further heavy rain and wind

Heavy rain, flooding and strong winds are causing widespread disruption across Nottinghamshire as Storm Babet batters the region.

The Environment Agency has issued 19 flood warnings across the county, where flooding is expected, and 24 flood alerts where flooding is possible.

Areas affected include the River Leen at Bulwell, Old Basford, New Basford and Bobbers Mill, the Cocker Beck at Lowdham and the River Trent in Nottinghamshire.

Motorists have been advised to take extra care, only make necessary journeys and avoid driving into flood water.

Bus operator Trentbarton said some services are diverting in Nottinghamshire due to flooding, meanwhile, Nottingham City Council has closed the Queen’s Drive Park and Ride due to rising river levels.

East Midlands Railway has warned passengers heavy rain is causing flooding on the tracks, which is affecting multiple routes and that disruption is expected.

An amber weather warning for rain remains in place from midday Friday until 6am on Saturday, October 2, with heavy rain and strong winds forecast across the region.

The Met Office said persistent heavy rain will bring the likelihood of some flooding and travel disruption.
