Delays in road, rail, air, and ferry transport are expected along with potential power outages and travel disruptions on exposed routes.

The Met Office has issued an East Midlands travel warnings of ‘strong winds that may cause disruption to travel’.

The warning is in place from 4pm today (Wednesday, December 4, 2024) till 9am tomorrow.

The Met Office say coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will likekly be affected by spray and/or large waves.

People can expect some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely too.

There are three weather warnings in effect across the UK, two of which are in the East Midlands region; wind on Thursday, December 5, and wind plus rain on Friday, December 6.

The Met Office’s most recent X post warns of ‘very wet weather in store for many’.

The countrywide picture also looks unsettled, with strong gusts reaching 50-60 mph widely with 65-75mph possible in places, especially around exposed coasts.

Travel advice issued from Met Office includes checking road conditions prior to travelling out, checking bus and train timetables, and amending your travel plans if necessary.
