It’s a bit of an unusual spot, but you won’t regret climbing to the top on a clear day

We all know that Nottingham and the county of Nottinghamshire boast unrivalled charm and character.

From the intricate Watson Fothergill building designs scattered across the city centre, to the lush greenery of Sherwood Forest, our county perfectly combines natural beauty with the very best of man-made wonders.

There are, of course, many different ways to experience everything Nottinghamshire has to offer.

Walking, cycling, taking a ride on a canal boat and going up in a hot air balloon are some great ways to see the best of the city or county as a whole.

But if you’re a Nottingham local who loves a good view, one of the best vantage points in the city is in a bit of an odd place.

The NCP car park in St James Street, just off Maid Marian Way, will be familiar to many drivers as a useful place to drop the car while visiting the city centre.

However, the car park has also earned a reputation for offering one of the best views over Nottingham in the whole city.

Level six, at the top of the car park, boasts panoramic views of the city centre and even the surrounding countryside.

It’s fair to say that the east side of the building offers the best views, with landmarks including Old Market Square and the Queen’s Chambers visible in the distance.

Look south to see Nottingham Castle standing dominant upon Castle Rock just a couple of streets away.

On a clear day, you might even be able to see the countryside bordering Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

There’s a lift to get to the top of the car park, so you don’t even need to worry about your legs aching on the way up.

Needless to say, don’t be daft and lean over the edge of the car park.

The breathtaking views are best enjoyed from a safe distance.
