There were many reasons for the votes including scenery, pubs, restaurants, history and natural beauty. Farmers markets, green spaces and independent shops were also included in the insider’s guide to where to live.

Below are the top five places in Nottingham according to Muddy Stilettos along with the reasons they chose that location.

1 - Southwell

Southwell is just 15.1 outside of the city centre and was chosen for ‘its famous cathedral, rolling hills and an impressive history.’ There was special mention of the high street ‘teaming with indies to explore’ along with a lot of fantastic local schools and festivities.

2 - Newark on Trent

Newark on Trent got a mention for its gorgeous Georgian and Victorian architecture along with excellent commuter links. The area was also suggested as a great place for families and professional couples to settle.

3 - Beeston

Beeston was top of the list for its pretty Victorian terrace houses along with its family-friendly and cool vibes. Muddy Stilettos listed the independent restaurants and cafes in the ‘charming’ town as a good reason for its spot as number three. Most importantly, it noted that Beeston has the highest concentrations of pubs in the United Kingdom, with 23 pubs within the town.

4 - Wollaton

Wollaton was chosen for several reasons including the ‘glorious’ deer park, top-notch transport links, quaint pubs and cute restaurants. Although the list made no reference to the massive festival that is Splendour which draws thousands to the area.

It does make reference to the great local schools, nurseries and nearby cultural attractions. This included the fantastic natural history museum filled with art.

5 - West Bridgford

Muddy Stilettos noted that West Bridgford is popular with families, students and young couples. This may have something to do with the excellent commuting links, independent shops and restaurants that make West Bridgford a great alternative to the city centre.

However, for sports fans, this is the place to live as it has Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Notts County and Nottingham Forest football grounds and the National Sports Centre in nearby Holme Pierrepont. You are not short of things to do or see.

Outside of the top five, there was Edwinstowe which is home to Sherwood Forest and Major Oak. The list referred to the area as a place where families can live ‘the good life’ due to the beautiful scenery and surroundings. It also drew attention to The Rose Cottage which is one of the best locations in Nottingham to get a plate of fish and chips.

Burton Joyce also got a mention for its tight-knit community feel which made it a friendly and welcoming place to live. It’s a great place for families to live due to the outdoor space, and green areas such as Gedling Country Park.

Farnsfield was chosen as number eight due to its beautiful countryside along with the easy access to Sherwood Forest and the city of Nottingham. The list referred to the independent shops, restaurants, pubs and a wine bar that are all within a short distance. As for things to do, White Post Farm Park was mentioned for its meerkats, alpacas and wallabies along with the Papplewick Pumping Station.
