The Bagel Project in Nottingham has announced the launch date and time for its new restaurant in the city centre

Curiosity has been mounting about a new business as a new logo appeared on the front of the former Bakehouse Cafe location in Hockley announcing the launch of a bagel shop. The Bagel Project Instagram confirmed it will launch on Friday, May 19 from midday.

The new team wrote: “OPENING FROM MIDDAY. The wait is over, pop in say hello and get your bagel fix. 12pm - 5pm or sell out so don’t miss out. We can’t wait to see you all!”

The property has been empty since August when the Bakehouse owners, Rosea and Craig Poynter announced they were stepping away from the business to spend more time with family. They had opened the second location following the success of the first Bakehouse in Sherwood. The Sherwood location is now home to the Good Honest Bakery.

The couple announced the closure with a notice on Facebook: “Spending time with your children is the one thing you will never regret. As the years have rolled by, The Bakehouse has demanded more and more of our time- in part due to covid, and the evolving cost of living crisis. But the thing we have noticed is that the time spent as a family has been diminishing.”

“When we started The Bakehouse we always said that we would only ever do it for as long as it worked for us as a family. The time has come where it is no longer working against the needs of our family. It is for that reason that we announce that we will be stepping away from The Bakehouse.”

We are forever grateful for the support and love the community has given us over the last 6 years. We have made lifelong friends and memories that we will always cherish. We’d also like to thank our incredible team past and present for helping make The Bakehouse what it is, we couldn’t have done any of it without you guys.”

While they announced that someone else would be reopening the property in 'a few weeks’ there has been no sign until now of who that might be.

It is the second launch for the street as Pizza Pilgrims opened on April 14 offering fresh slices, sides and dessert. The shop, Macaroon Marlo, on the other side of the property has only recently opened in October 2022.
