City centre market brings delicious international food to Nottingham

A market with something for everyone has returned to Nottingham’s city centre but be quick as it’s for one weekend only.

For Nottingham food lovers, this weekend marks the return of the award-winning international market. While it’s not all about the food, it’s a great excuse to pop into the city centre to sample an internationally-inspired treat or two. The market opened on Wednesday, March 22 and will only be available until Sunday 26 March from 9 am until 6 pm.

The old Market Square has been transformed with an array of market stalls offering unusual arts, crafts, fine foods and delis. This includes delights from The Greek Grill House which have a range of gyros, filo spinach and feta cheese pies to try along with Minot, which is a traditional Normandy creperie with proper French crepes and savoury galettes.

For meat eaters or the adventurous types, there is a chance to sink your teeth into something a bit more exotic with crocodile, kangaroo, ostrich, wild boar and venison on offer. The German Salami House is just begging for a good beer pairing so why not pick up something to try while heading to the bar? Vegans are advised to head to the Greek Vegan Deli which makes an unreal selection of plant-based snacks along with many gluten-free options.

As it’s Friday and most of us will be gasping for a post-work-week pick-me-up, there is a bar on-site in the centre of the market complete with tables. Now, all we have to do is pray the weather holds which in March is not always guaranteed.

If you can’t be tempted by a foodie treat then there are plenty of gifting or shopping options. The Dutch Market Garden offers an array of colourful flowers, bulbs, shrubs and plants for those interested in gardening. Luis Cordova has South American clothing, knitwear, and jewellery along with amber jewellery from the Baltic Sea and Fair Trade wooden furniture from Kenya.
