A major high street brand has announced it will close it’s Nottingham city centre store from Friday, August 28 after a lengthy fight to stay open

A popular high street retailer has announced its closure through a sign on the front window of its Bridlesmith Gate location. Joules Nottingham will close its doors on Friday, August 28 leaving just its outlet shop open.

The team gave no reason for the closure but thanked their loyal customers who have shopped with the brand over the years. Joules is a women’s and menswear brand that also sells children’s clothing along with homeware and pet items.

It read: “We’ve taken the decision to close this store on Friday the 25th of August. We’d like to thank you lovely lot for supporting us over the years. And remember, you can always find us online at joules.com or your nearest store which is now Joules of East Midlands Outlet.”

The news comes after the brand faced administration in 2022 with the loss of some stores across the UK. Joules Founder, Tom Joule announced that the company would go into agreement with NEXT PLC to buy the group out of administration to form a new company.

However, this resulted in 19 store closures of which Nottingham was not listed. It seems that the shop will now join Plymouth, Edinburgh and Oxford who all appeared on the list of closures.

It has been a tricky time for retail and Bridlesmith Gate has been undergoing a resurgence in recent years with independent companies moving in as it seems big-name retailers are moving out. In the past year, Cath Kidson, Kurt Geiger and Jack Wills have all left the street but Stick and Ribbon, Relic x Hooked Nottingham and Menspire have all moved in.

It’s all part of a plan to revitalise the area after the collapse of Broadmarsh left the street with many empty units. It is unclear what the future will hold for the former Joules unit.
