An inspection was held by the team at Nottingham Racecourse on Colwick Road to determine the conditions but it was found not to be in good enough condition for the meeting to be held. It was decided that the waterlogged track would need to be abandoned until conditions improve.

Thankfully, rainfall is expected to lift from Tuesday, June 20 from noon with sunshine forecast for Nottingham over the next few days. It may take a few days for the course to dry out and be ready for racing to start.

The team at the racecourse tweeted: Racing this evening (19/06) has been abandoned following this morning’s inspection. There was 45mm of rainfall on Sunday which has left the track unraceable, with areas of unsafe ground due to waterlogging.”

There are safety considerations for both jockeys and horses when using a wet track as it may become slippery increasing the risk of injury. It may also affect the performance of the horse and further damage the track.

Nottingham Racecourse has said it will be issuing refunds to those affected by the cancellation. It is expected that the next fixture, on June 29 will go ahead as scheduled. Tickets are on sale for the afternoon of racing.
