A football match will be held in Derby this weekend in memory of the victims of the recent attacks in Nottingham.

Nineteen-year-old university students Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber and school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, were stabbed to death in a deadly attack in the city last month.

On Saturday, Derby County and Nottingham Forest fans will play in their honour at Mickleover’s Don Amott Arena - with money raised going to the victims’ families or charities they nominate.

Organiser and Rams supporter Adam Richardson said: "The news affected people all over the world, so it's only right we stand in solidarity and help support those affected.

"I'd hate to imagine what they are going through, so I'm trying to show as much support as I can. By bringing the two cities together it will send a big message - we will stand by each other through the tough times and prove football is so much more than a sport.”

The game will kick-off at 3pm - admission is £10 but free for children under-12. As well as football, there will be food and drink, entertainment and more.

Adam added: "It will be an emotional day but also a very good day in aid of supporting those affected. We will remember those who lost their lives - and we will not forget."

The event has the full backing of Don Amott, chair of Mickleover FC. Those with enquiries about the event can contact Adam on [email protected]
