Nottingham Castle to reopen for live Eurovision 2023 screening

Nottingham Castle will re-opened this weekend so that fans can watch the Eurovision 2023 screening

The grounds will host screenings of the Eurovision Final on a giant 28sqm screen with a concert-quality sound system. Tickets went on sale for just one pound in March.

The Coronation weekend was the first event to be screened on Saturday, May 6 live from Westminster Abbey in London. The new king was crowned in the same location as the late queen over seventy years ago.

The second event will be the live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final on Saturday, May 13. Nottingham has been selected as a BBC broadcast partner and will stream the event from Liverpool. Picnics will not be allowed on site for this event but food and drink will be available.

The UK is hosting the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine which won the contest last year but is unable to host due to the war. As a mark of respect and solidarity, Nottingham City Council is holding several tickets for Ukrainian guests, hosts and residents in Nottingham.

Tickets for the Eurovision Final screenings via whatsonnottingham are now sold out . Tickets cost just £1 although there is still a chance to win a pair by entering a competition on the website before May 10.

Nigel Hawkins, Head of Culture & Libraries at Nottingham City Council, said: “I am delighted that we are re-opening the castle gates for these screenings in May. We know people have been eagerly anticipating the castle site being open once again and these events are sure to be a popular way to rediscover it.

“We encourage members of the public to book their tickets early so they don’t miss out on joining the celebrations in the stunning castle grounds.”

The screenings have been made possible thanks to funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, giving thousands of people the opportunity to come together to celebrate these historic and exciting events.
