BBC Line of Duty stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston ‘in talks’ for return as series 7 plans emerge
Actors including Vicky McClure and Martin Compston are said to have met up with writer Jed Mercurio to plan the possibility of a seventh series
Hit BBC crime series Line of Duty could return for a seventh series, according to a report by The Sun.
Insiders have told the newspaper that the show’s writer, Jed Mercurio, met with cast members Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar and Martin Compston last week to discuss the possibility of a new series.
The finale of the drama was screened in 2021, but there are now fresh hopes among fans that one final series could be on the cards.
The Sun’s report claims that the three lead actors are looking to align their schedules for filming in 2025, with a view to series seven airing in 2026.
Wollaton-born McClure has played DC Kate Fleming since the very first series and enjoys a strong friendship with co-stars Dunbar and Compston.
Appearing on The Late Late Show in Ireland on Friday (November 1), McClure talked about filming with the cast in Belfast: "We stayed in an apartment where it was like we were next door to each other and it was quite specific that Martin's flat was the party flat, Aidy's was like the cooking and then you come to mind to learn lines and do the professional stuff.”
Addressing rumours of a possible reunion, the 41-year-old said: “We've said it a million times that coming back to Belfast and shooting it again would be amazing and the dream because we love working together. We love how much the audience loves the show.
“The last series we shot in Covid and it was hard, you know, we didn't go out and to be honest, when we do shoot Line of Duty, we have the craic. So it would be lovely to come back and properly enjoy it.”
Line of Duty is one of the BBC’s most successful series of the last two decades and has an average IMDb rating of 8.7/10 from 72,000 reviews.
