‘It’s with a heavy heart’: Iconic Nottingham city centre shop to close after 43 years
Dozens of customers have expressed their sadness at the news
An “iconic” Nottingham city centre shop is set to close after 43 years.
Wild Clothing, in Broad Street, Hockley, will close on December 31, marking an end to more than four decades of trading.
The shop, which described itself as Nottingham’s “original and best” vintage clothing shop, opened its doors in 1983.
In a social media statement issued on December 16, the shop’s management said that they had “explored every option” to keep the business operational, including searching for new owners, but ultimately reached a decision to close.
The post said: “It’s with a very heavy heart that we’re sharing the news that Wild Clothing will be closing its doors.
“After 43 years of trading, this is truly the end of an era. Wild has been so much more than a shop - it’s been a place of community, creativity and connection for generations of people in Nottingham and beyond.
“Over the past few years, we’ve done everything we possibly could to keep Wild going. We explored every option, including trying to find new owners to carry the torch forward.
“Sadly, in an incredibly difficult climate for independent retail in the UK, it hasn’t been possible.
“This hasn’t been an easy decision, and it’s one we’ve reached with a lot of thought and care.
“What has been easy is recognising just how much Wild has meant - to our team (past and present), to our customers and to the city itself.
“We are endlessly grateful for the loyalty and support you’ve shown Wild over the decades. It has been part of so many lives, memories and moments, and that legacy will always matter.”
With the shop set to close at 4.30pm on December 31, customers are being invited to call in and pick up a bargain from the closing down sale.
