There are many ways to join in the Coronation celebrations if you want to avoid the city centre. Here is how all the different areas of Nottingham will celebrate

As the Coronation weekend starts in style on Saturday, May 6, there are lots of ways to get involved if you fancy a celebration. Outside of street parties and the big celebration at Nottingham Castle, there are plenty of local events around Nottinghamshire.

Here are some of the best places to go to raise a glass....or two

Bassetlaw District Council:

A Coronation Celebration will be taking place at Retford Town Hall on Sunday, 7 May, between 12 pm - 6 pm.

Entertainment will include Retford Ukulele Group, Hannah Harris, Jessica Mary Brett, DJ Russ Brett and a Raffle.

Children’s entertainment, from 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm will include a crown-making workshop, Debutots story-telling and face painting.

There are children’s Coronation activities in Worksop Town Centre, Saturday 6 May, 10 am - 3 pm.

Broxtowe Borough Council:

Indoor Street Party to Celebrate the King’s Coronation in Trowell at Trowell Parish Hall, Stapleford Road, Trowell, Nottingham NG9 3QA.

Taking place on Saturday, 6 May, 9.45 am-3 pm, bring your own picnic and drinks as there will be games, a raffle and throw the wet sponges at the Councillor in the stocks, fancy dress through the different eras and coverage of the Coronation will be shown in the main hall.

Celebration of the Coronation of King Charles in Cossall at The Old School Room, Church Lane, Cossall on Saturday, 6 May, from 10.30 am.

Watch the coronation on the large TV in the hall and a lunchtime buffet lunch with a glass of fizz will be provided. The afternoon will conclude with live entertainment from Pancakeboy and Miss Sharpen performing songs from the previous decades of the life of King Charles.

Coronation Fun Day at Basil Russell Field, Maple Drive, Nuthall on Sunday, 7 May, 1 pm-5 pm.

Community event with free Brass Band. 1940s singer, bouncy castles and children’s entertainment. Also, lots of stall holders and some fairground rides. Traditional tea and scones from the cafe, cakes from the WI, hot dog stall and sideshow from local groups, individuals and entertainers. The park also has a play area, tennis and limited parking.

Gedling Borough Council:

The Coronation will be shown live on the cinema screen at the Bonington Theatre, the council’s 178-seater theatre and cinema in Arnold Town Centre.

Tickets are free, but seats need to be booked in advance online and the screening is scheduled to start at 10:45 am but timings may be subject to change once official details are released.

The event will also be broadcast at the council’s Richard Herrod Centre, Carlton. No booking is required for the event at the Richard Herrod Centre and the venue will be open from 8:15 am.

Mansfield District Council:

Coronation screening on Saturday, 6 May, at Mansfield Museum from 10 am to 3 pm.

On Sunday, 7 May, there’s the King’s Coronation celebration at Berry Hill Park from 12-4 pm for an

afternoon hosted by Mansfield District Council in partnership with Nottinghamshire Music Education Hub and Inspire Culture Learning and Libraries is funded by Music for Youth and Arts Council England – the day will include music, food, entertainment, knitting and much more.

Also, a party in the park on Monday, 8 May at Yeoman Hill Park, Mansfield Woodhouse from 12 to 4 pm.

Newark and Sherwood District Council:

Newark on Friday 5 May, expert cake decorator Alison McNevin from The Cake Decorating Academy will lead the class, helping attendees to create four stunning small cake toppers which will adorn a set of tasty cupcakes for participants to take home.

Taking place at Newark Town Hall from 2 pm to 4 pm, the session will see Alison teach sugar craft modelling as well as other cake decoration techniques.

The two different designs which everyone will have the chance to make include a crown and a flag and the class is suitable for beginners over 18 with spaces for £6 (card payments not available) with advanced booking required - all equipment, cupcakes and icing is included.

Rushcliffe Borough Council:

Flintham - the Village Coronation Committee are hosting a coronation Big Lunch Street Party on Saturday, May 6 with meals at tables in the street, a dance band, music MC, quiz, sports and games for all ages, art activities for children, face painting, tattoos, treasure hunt and supervised bouncy castle.

This takes place on Main Street between Spring Lane and Woods Lane, NG23 5LA and it’s £2 per ticket, £5 to reserve a table and tickets include street food supplied by the Boot and Shoe Inn.

Gotham - Sunday Funday on Sunday, May 7, from 1 pm to 6 pm at Gotham Recreation Ground – with free entry for a day with Lawrence Marshall’s One-Man Band, Laughter Yoga, Circus Workshop, The Wild Man of the Woods, Rocket Making and Arts and Crafts, access to Gotham Village Cricket Club BBQ and Bar, Bakery, Gotham Thursday Group Refreshments and Gotham Pre-School Playgroup Sweet Stall at additional cost.

Orston – Sunday, May 7, 1 pm, the Coronation Big Lunch at Church Street, Orston.

An afternoon of food, drink, music, activities, competitions, a raffle and more; craft bags will be available for children, which will include face paints, colouring sheets and games.

Ruddington - Ruddington Village Market presents the coronation screen on the green on Saturday, May 6 from 9 am at The Village Green, NG11 6DY with free entry.

The outdoor cinema shows a live broadcast of the coronation and then The Lion King from 3 pm. There will also be 70 stalls of street food, drinks (including the market bar) and gifts with music from the community choir.
