We don’t like to blow our own trumpet (oh, we definitely do), but Nottinghamshire has produced some very important people over the centuries.
From literary hero D.H. Lawrence to fashion pioneer Sir Paul Smith, our amazing county has been home to all kinds of special people.
And those people, in turn, have done some pretty special things.
In fact, some of the things you may well have used today were invented by people from Nottinghamshire.
Here are eight of the best inventions that were created by people from Nottinghamshire.

1. HP Sauce
While 'everyone's favourite sauce' is more closely associated with Birmingham, it was actually invented by a Nottinghamshire shopkeeper. FG Garton produced the sauce from his store, but traded the recipe to pay off a debt to a Birmingham-based vinegar company. Photo: Christopher Furlong

3. The circular saw
Not as recent an invention as you may thing, records state that the circular saw was first invented by former Mansfield wood and metalworker Joseph Murray as far back as 1790. Photo: Getty Images

4. Raleigh Chopper
Famed for its large back wheel, its unique handlebars, and its ability to inflict severe groin injury if you braked too suddenly, the Chopper was the must-have means of transportation for any 1970s child who wanted to be taken seriously 'down the rec'. Not happy with the misery they caused with the Chopper, the company went on to produce the Grifter - a BMX-style cycle with three gears and weighed about the same as a small cow. Photo: Raleigh
