Historically, Nottingham has experienced a lot even just within the last one hundred years from changing city streets to visits from former politicians to Royal family members. Here are some of the best snapshots in time that show the way we were, events and some of the visits the city has had.

2. A Nottingham policeman directing traffic from his protected 'pulpit', England, 2nd March 1932. For some time past the Nottingham Police have been provided stands familiarly known as 'pulpits' from whch they regulate the traffic. Now, owing to the keen wind, a protective wooden back surmounted by a plate glass windscreen and side wings has been added to the 'pulpit' to give shelter from the wintry blasts.

3. The Prince of Wales unveils a plaque to commemorate the official opening of the new £6.9 million Emergency Department at the Queen’s Medical Centre, on 27 July, 2004. Prince Charles was returning to the hospital where he was treated following a polo accident 14 years ago.

4. The New Municipal Lodging House, a working man’s hotel in Nottingham, England, 29th November 1932. Erected at a cost of £32,000, it is to be opened on Thursday 1st December 1921, on the site of the old slums, and will house 200 workers. Each man will have a lock up cubicle to sleep in and ‘the run of the house’ for 1 shilling per day or 66d per week.
