The Nottinghamshire takeaway claiming to serve the ‘UK’s biggest portion of fish and chips’

It’s served in a 20-inch box and costs £40!

For many of us, fish and chips is the ultimate cheat meal.

Considered by some as the UK’s national dish, families across the UK enjoy a chippy tea as a treat on Friday or Saturday night.

Whether your go-to side dish is a thick piece of battered cod, a sausage or a fishcake, there aren’t many greater pleasures in life than a chippy tea.

As a nation we can be quite tribal when it comes to choosing a chippy to order from, and portion size can often play a major role.

Well, if you’re after a good plate full, there really is one stand-out option here in Nottinghamshire.

The Chip Inn, in Huthwaite, claims to serve the biggest portion of fish and chips anywhere in the UK.

That’s quite a bold claim, but once you see the portion in question, named The Codfather, you certainly wouldn’t dispute it.

Served in a 20-inch box, the £40 meal contains chips, fish, sausages, fish cakes, curry sauce, mushy peas and baked beans.

The box, which has to be reinforced with sellotape before customers can collect it, weighs around a stone.

Gargantuan portion size

Megann Altinoz, who owns the shop with her husband Erdal, said: “This is the most expensive box we do, and we sell quite a few.

“Some people travel from quite far away and they’re not bothered about how much it costs. They just want the box and their picture with the box in the shop on Facebook!”

“The box is absolutely packed and it is very heavy. You have to put your hand underneath the middle otherwise it would just fall through.”

The takeaway also serves takeaway boxes containing kebab meat, pizzas and burgers.
