The two units opposite Lady Bay Retail Park have had a difficult trading history but new businesses have taken over the former cafe and takeaway

Two new Caribbean food businesses have opened opposite Lady Bay Retail Park on Meadow Lane serving a variety of traditional dishes and breakfasts.

Wavey Kitchen and the soon-to-open Curried Away have transformed the empty units.

Wavey Kitchen has already opened serving a full menu of Caribbean dishes such as lamb chops, curry mutton and jerk prawns.

There is also the option for customers to buy a £10 box which includes a main and side dish. Sides include mac ‘n’ cheese, rice and peas, plantain or loaded fries.

The kitchen also offers a traditional breakfast option with seven items for £5 including eggs, toast, veggie sausages or omelettes.

There is a selection of Carribean-influenced natural juices such as sea Moss Wavey punch or a Guinness punch but plenty of orange juice too.

While there are several seats and spaces to sit in and enjoy the food, the kitchen will also deliver. The business has opened on the site of Panini King takeaway.

The building was given a new lick of bright orange paint and almost opened as a sandwich bar earlier this year.

It came after the previous owners announced they would be closing Meadow Lane Cafe which had been opened during the pandemic.

The business had struggled due to restrictions during Covid and the signage was removed and replaced with Panini King.

Owner Lukas Murzyn who lives in Colwick, has since opened The Vault on Clumber Street as a bar meets cafe.

Meanwhile, on the premises, next door, a new food business called Curried Away is set to open in the next few weeks as the building has been given a makeover.

The building had been damaged in 2021 after a fire broke out in one of the upstairs flats.

The flat had been located above Dee's Flavour takeaway and had its roof taken off by the fire causing significant damage to the building.

The unit had remained empty ever since with repairs needed before any business could move in. However, it has now been repainted and has a new counter installed.
