Giggling Squid launches first-ever 'plate-sized' prawn cracker - and it costs less than a packet of sweets

Giggling Squid and Deliveroo have joined forces to create a limited edition side dish, that aims to revolutionise Thai takeaways.

And luckily for foodies here in Nottingham - we’re one of the few places that gets to try the ‘plate-sized’ prawn cracker.

The idea was born after data from Deliveroo showed that prawn crackers are the most common Thai side dish ordered on the app, overtaking spring rolls and satay chicken!

According to the press release, In 2023 alone, Giggling Squid delivered over 55,000 prawn crackers to UK households via Deliveroo and cooked up an estimated 16,000 individual prawn crackers weekly.

The giant cracker, which will set you back just 99p, is made from Giggling Squid’s signature spicy recipe and measures a whopping 25 cm in diameter with 25 cm thickness. 

Taking over 12 weeks to develop, expert chefs trialled 15 different recipe combinations to find the perfect snap, colour, taste and plate-like qualities to create this limited-edition offering.

Arabella Jenkins at Deliveroo said, “Whether you are a plater, scooper or dipper; seven in ten of Brits agree that a Thai takeaway isn’t complete without a prawn cracker, which is why we couldn’t resist partnering with Giggling Squid on this unique and extra large creation!

“Perfect for sharing - or not, as the case may be - give these giant prawn crackers a go and smash, spoon, mash, munch and dip to your heart's content!”

Giggling Squid's co-founder Andy Laurillard said: “With our customers munching through around one million prawn crackers at home in the last year, it goes without saying they’re one of our most popular dishes.

“In fact, we teased on April Fools' Day that we would launch giant prawn crackers, and the reaction from our fans was so positive that we’ve made it a reality for a limited time only, exclusively with Deliveroo.  Our same Giggling Squid signature bold taste but three times bigger, better, and crunchier!

“They won’t be around for long, though, so you’ll need to be quick if you want to get one of these supersize snacks delivered to your door!”
