Carpet of daffodils and spring blooms at historic Nottinghamshire priory is ‘a sight to behold’

Visitors can also see bluebells at this time of year

This past week has felt a bit more springlike, hasn’t it (even though we’re still in February)?

With temperatures reaching a tropical 13C over the past few days, it’s fair to say that we’re on the home straight away from winter and into spring.

Over the coming weeks we’ll all start noticing the first hallmarks of spring, from budding trees to post-6pm sunsets.

Spring is always synonymous with nature, and some would argue that the season is the best time of year to get outside and explore the idyllic Nottinghamshire countryside.

Seasonal blooms will start popping up all over the place in the coming weeks - parks, roadside verges, nature reserves - but there are a handful of places where the vibrant colours really do come to the fore.

Why Felley Priory is the best place in Nottinghamshire to see spring flowers

Spring is undoubtedly the best time of year to visit the gardens at Felley Priory.

An annual feature of the garden is the carpet of daffodils in the orchard, some of which are extremely rare.

The gardens of the 12th century manor house, near Sutton-in-Ashfield, come alive at this time of year with stunning seasonal flowers.

The carpet of yellow, apricot, white and orange is a sight to behold during late February, March and April.

Colourful Tulips have recently been added to the garden, with other plants grown at this time of year including a wonderful collection of magnolias and snake’s head fritillary.

Muddy Stilettos said: "As well as 2.5 acres of gorgeous gardens that come alive with colour in the spring, you’ll find a stunning woodland carpet of bluebells here. Once you’ve had your fill of the blue, there are amazing magnolias, tulips and snake’s head fritillary to drink in."placeholder image

A stunning woodland carpet of Bluebells can also be found at Felley Priory in the spring.

Entry to the gardens between November and February is priced at £7.50 per person, or £8.50 from March onwards.
