A new addition to Nottingham’s lunchtime outlets is bringing an international twist to the usual jacket potatoes.

Baked, on Friar Lane, opened on May 22 and offers a Turkish version of the meal, called kumpir. Kumpir is a more loaded and creamier jacket potato and at Baked it is served with Turkish sausage as one of the toppings.

Emirhan Polat, the owner of Baked, said: “We always had an idea to bring an interpreted jacket potato and there also wasn’t a jacket potato place where you could actually eat in in Nottingham.

“There are very limited options for healthy eating in the city centre and obviously there’s a big appeal for healthy eating among people at the moment. We chose this unit because it’s very close to town and working areas so it’s easy for office workers to come in and have their food and then get back to work on time.”

A jacket potato is priced between £5.90 and £6.90 and the wide range of toppings includes chicken curry, chilli con carne, olives, sweetcorn, baked beans, and prawns.

The healthy ingredients come from Bidfood, UK’s leading food wholesaler, and Booker, while fresh vegetables are provided daily by a local supplier. Apart from the delicious jacket potatoes, the bakery also offers salads and falafel, all made in house.

The business currently has a daily discount on offer to attract customers.

Emirhan said: “At the moment, we’re doing 15 per cent off from 11:30am to 1:30pm to motivate customers to come in. In addition to that, we also have our social media platforms where people can place orders but we’re also on Uber Eats.”

Sales at the restaurant have so far been good, with great feedback from customers as well. The new eatery could also potentially look for new staff members as business progresses.

Emirhan added: “We’re not looking for any staff members at the moment as we’re a family-run business and have only just recently opened.

“Depending on how business goes, in a couple of months we will potentially be looking for new staff members, however.”
