The festive evening market has been reorganised for this Saturday (December 9)

A festive evening market event that was cancelled due to last weekend’s heavy snow has been reorganised for this Saturday.

The Woodthorpe Park Christmas Market will go ahead this Saturday, December 9, offering live music, twilight shopping, a Santa’s grotto and tasty treats from Baileys hot chocolates to Christmas cakes. It will run from 10am until 8pm.

It is the first time the managers of the Plant Nursery at Woodthorpe Park have tried an evening event as an addition to the regular day market held at the site every weekend in the runup to Christmas.

The idea is the initiative of Nottingham City Council’s Parks and Open Spaces department, which operates Woodthorpe Park, and Homemade, which runs the café on site.

It was initially planned for last Sunday, December 3, but had to be called off due to the sudden heavy snow overnight.

Residents from all over Nottingham are being invited to attend the market and evening events, most of which are open to the public for free.

Those wishing to take part in special events including wreath-making classes and Father Christmas storytime need to book tickets in advance through the Nottingham City Council Parks and Open Spaces Eventbrite page.

Homemade will be serving mulled wine, prosecco, and a range of festive treats in its café on site, including Christmas cake, gingerbread cake, and Baileys & chocolate fudge cake as well as providing an outdoor van to serve drinks and snacks.

Founder Jasmin Barlow-Wilkinson said: “It’s a really nice idea to have an evening event. It’s so pretty when it starts to get dark up here. The tropical house gets converted into a Santa’s grotto and it looks amazing.”

And local musicians Kat Kyrris and Ben James, who perform as KaBen, will perform at the venue.

The transformed Plant Nursery includes space for 30 stallholders selling a variety of gifts. The stallholders are all independent and come mainly from Nottingham.

Many of those selling goods on site have been involved with the Christmas market since it was first set up, seven years ago. The last Christmas market for 2023 will take place on the weekend of December 16th and 17th.
