A range of events are being held in Nottinghamshire in early May to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
On May 8, 1945, prime minister Winston Churchill confirmed in a historic speech to the nation that the Allies had formally accepted Germany’s surrender.
This led to street parties and other forms of celebration across the country - a tradition which has been replicated every year since.
With the 80th anniversary of that historic day fast approaching, preparations for celebratory events in Nottinghamshire are now well underway.

2. VE Day Afternoon Tea at Norwood Park, Southwell - May 8
Guests can enjoy a nostalgic display of wartime memorabilia and a fascinating history talk before tucking into a delicious afternoon tea. The Carlton Male Voice Choir will provide a special live performance, adding to the atmosphere. In celebration of Sir John Starkey’s 80th birthday on May 8th, all guests also turning 80 will be treated to a slice of birthday cake. 3. VE Day Celebration with the Wollaton Royal British Legion - May 8
Join the Wollaton branch of the Royal British Legion as they celebrate VE Day in true community spirit.
