Nottingham Forest welcome Wolves to the City Ground in a Premier League relegation six-pointer on Saturday

Steve Cooper is facing the prospect of being sacked by Nottingham Forest if they fail to beat Premier League relegation rivals Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Forest are bottom of the Premier League form table, having lost four and drawn two of their last six games and Cooper is now facing the sack as early as Saturday, according The Telegraph’s Matt Law.

This is familiar territory for Forest though. Following a crushing 4-0 defeat to Leicester City in October, speculation circulated about Cooper’s job being on the line but the Welshman was given a new contract until 2025 in a public vote of confidence from the board.

Despite that show of support from the board, recent form has led to further reports that Cooper’s days are numbered if form does not improve.

According to the Spanish news outlet El Partidazo de COPE, Forest approached former Atletico Bilbao coach Marcelino in March but were rejected.

Last night’s report appeared to touch a nerve with some Forest fans. Here is what they had to say about the prospect of Cooper being sacked, following the reports:

@WiggumCharm: You know, it’s funny. In the 20 years prior to Steve Cooper, I’m not sure I’d ever known “togetherness” as an #nffc fan. It seemed we were always divided over something… He fixed it. He changed our fortunes and our future, regardless of what happens this season. That’s our man.

@jordanleeming: Don’t you dare @NFFC! You will lose the fan base and the spirit around the club!! He built all the up, his hard work, don’t undo it!!

@ethanlamb01: This man is responsible for reconnecting the fanbase with the playing team after years of discontent. Sacking him would do undo all the hard work and progress we’ve made in the last 18 months. Steve Cooper, back him not sack him.

@Ldevlin24: Cooper should be in charge next season, regardless of the division. It might be a decade before we find a gaffer that unites an entire fan base, and just gets the club the way SC does. I think we’ll get a result tomorrow, and I hope this nonsense is put to bed #nffc

@Russell17Zak: Anyone who wants this man sacked, feel free to unfollow me! The first manager since Clough who has understood the culture of the club and how important it is too our fans and the city! We knew this would be hard, but we need to be united #nffc

Even Line of Duty’s Arsher Ali weighed in on the news:

@arsherali: Taken years to find someone like Steve Cooper. Someone who can properly handle being in charge of this club. Someone who loves and believes in it. Someone who understands us fans. To the players: keep him in his job. To the board: KEEP HIM IN HIS BLOODY JOB. #nffc Get your decibel meter’s out, because one thing is for sure, the noise at the City Ground is going to be deafening as the Garibaldi faithful show their support for Steve Cooper.
