Nottingham Forest are to sack manager Steve Cooper with the club currently sitting five points outside the relegation zone.

Forest confirmed Cooper’s dismissal, on Twitter (X) and multiple reports have suggested that former Wolverhampton Wanderers’ boss Nuno Espirito Santo has been lined up as his replacement.

The team wrote: "Nottingham Forest confirms the departure of head coach Steve Cooper. Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club and wish him well in his future endeavours."

Steve Cooper was appointed head coach of Nottingham Forest on 21 September 2021. It’s been widely reported that Espirito Santo has already held talks with the Forest board. An article by the Guardian says Santo has agreed to take the job.

Cooper’s side have won just one of their last 13 games and lost 2-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur last Friday.

Cooper has consistently been backed by the Forest support, but owner Evangelos Marinakis has become increasingly concerned at the club’s results.

The Welshman guided Forest to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years and kept the club in the top flight last season.

Forest’s festive fixtures include a crunch match at home with fellow strugglers AFC Bournemouth and an away match against high-flying Newcastle United.
