Beccy Webster was left red-faced and £1,500 out of pocket after The Reds romped to their emphatic victory against Brighton on Saturday

Nottingham Forest have presented a bagful of gifts to a pub landlady after her 'free pint for every goal' offer backfired when the team won 7-0.

She was forced to give away 300 pints at the Gedling Inn, in Nottingham, after admitting an 'own goal' with her offer of a free drink every time Forest scored.

It meant customers were able to get a fresh top-up every 13 minutes across 90 minutes as the Seagulls were dismantled by Nuno Espírito Santo's men.

Today (Tue) club legend John McGovern, 75, who captained the side which won the European Cup twice under Brian Clough, paid a visit to the boozer.

On behalf of the high-flying Premier League club he gifted her a signed Forest shirt, two tickets to the Manchester City game next month and a complimentary stadium tour.

Sharing half a pint of Guinness with Beccy, the former midfielder said the club had wanted to give "something back" to the family-run business.

He presented Beccy with the gifts, which included a shirt signed by the men's squad with Gedling Inn and the number 7 on the back.

Beccy, 37, said: "It's amazing as we're all massive Forest fans.

“My dad has had a season ticket since he was young and my son has one too.

“We've been given a signed shirt and it says Gedling Inn and it’s got a number seven on it for all the goals.

"We’ve got two tickets to see the Man City game and the shirt is signed by all the players. We’ve got a stadium tour as well.

“John just said thank you for supporting the club and we had a laugh and a joke about it.

"We had a cheeky half Guinness with him to celebrate, too.”

The pub had announced they’d be showcasing the game live at the weekend with the special offer to attract fans to the family-run pub.

But Beccy said she began regretting her offer when the fourth goal was bagged - but says her locals were "loving it".

She added: “I kind of expected two or three goals, I knew they would come back with a bang after the loss against Bournemouth, but I didn’t expect this.

“It’s crazy that I picked that one day. It got to four or five and I thought maybe this was a mistake.

“Everyone was laughing at me when the goals went in, it was so funny.

"There was about 60-70 people in the pub at the time, too. We had to pull about 300 free pints, but everyone was loving it.

They all shared in the joke, it was good. When the final whistle went I just went phew!

“We’re going to do something again in future but I don't know if it will be as extreme."

McGovern, who led the club to back-to-back European Cup success in 1979 and 1980, said: "The offer for a few beers for every goal scored doesn’t sound too bad.

"But when the team scores seven it’s going to leave them out of pocket, so we thought we’d give them something.

“It’s been a week where it’s been like Jekyll and Hyde for our supporters with the loss to Bournemouth so we owe it to them.”

The Seagulls were put to the sword by top 4-chasing Forest with striker Chris Wood scoring a hat-trick.

It was Forest's biggest league win since a 7-0 victory over Chelsea in the top flight in April 1991.
