Forest fans praise spirit and fight from Cooper’s side despite dissapointing loss at Anfield.

Having only scored five goals away from home this season, netting twice at Anfield wasn’t enough for Steve Cooper’s side to return to Nottingham with points on the board.

Thanks to some strong defending, Liverpool were limited by way of chances in the first half. It wasn’t until the 25th minute that Keylor Navas had a save to make from a Virgil Van Dijk header at close range.

Despite a solid defensive display in the first half, Forest were unable to maintain any meaningful possession, which meant they did not create any clear cut chances and as the half went on, pressure from Klopp’s side mounted.

Unfortunately for Forest, they conceded minutes after the second half began from a corner. Diogo Jota’s close range header highlighted a lack of organisation in Forest’s set piece defending, which became a feature of the tie as the half progressed.

Neco Williams impressed against the club he joined as a boy and was Forest’s brightest performer. His charging runs paid off as Gibbs-White laid him off and his deflected shot floated past Alisson for a shock Forest equaliser.

Four minutes later though, Awoniyi conceded a needless freekick and Forest were caught napping as Jota found himself with far too much time to slot his second past Navas.

This pattern repeated itself.

After Gibbs-White’s fine finish inside Liverpool’s box in the 67th minute, Lodi fouled Salah. Three minutes after conceding, Navas picked the ball out the back of his goal following more poor set piece defending.

Despite the frustrating nature of Liverpool’s second and third goals, Forest pushed and began to put pressure on Klopp’s defence.

Having come off the bench, Johnson came closest with his lobbed attempt agonisingly hitting the crossbar, much to the dismay of Forest travelling faithful.

Here’s a glimpse at how fans reacted to today’s loss.
